MA Degree in German

Famous German-speakers

WHY GET A MASTER'S DEGREE?

Our German Studies M.A. prepares graduate students for careers in education – or for pursuit of a PhD – as well as teaching transferrable skills beneficial for professional and academic pursuits.

Whether conducting literary analysis or linguistic inquiry, MA students apply critical thinking skills to literary texts, visual media, language pedagogy, and linguistics, both within well-established traditions and in new, inventive frameworks of thought.

As graduate teaching assistants, students not only learn and apply best practices for accessible teaching–they also learn to work collaboratively within a cohort of faculty members and fellow graduate students. In doing so, MA graduates gain valuable experience in collaboration and communication working with people with different educational backgrounds and experience levels.

Located at the intersection of two heterogeneous cultures, the German MA program at UGA stresses cultural competency in the target culture, while simultaneously invoking in students a cultural self-reflection. The result is greater cultural awareness and practical competency interacting in foreign settings and new contexts
