Thanks to the generosity of individual donors and foundations, the department offers travel awards and grants to recognize and support research and scholarship, and to support travel abroad for study or research. All scholarship applications are due on the Monday after UGA's Spring Break Recipients will be announced before graduation Study Abroad & Travel Grants Kicklighter Travel Grants Awarded to students planning to study abroad during the summer for one semester or an entire academic year. The grants are intended to encourage study abroad or other immersive language and cultural experiences. Max Kade Foundation Travel Grants Travel grants for students to participate in the UGA summer study abroad program in Freiburg, Germany. The Halle Foundation Engineering-German Language Study and Travel Scholarship Scholarships for students pursuing a dual degree in Engineering and German prior to their semester at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Academic Excellence Awards Scott Sikes Award The Scott Sikes Award is a cash award that recognizes the Outstanding Russian Student of the year. This award is presented during the departmental graduation and award ceremony at the end of spring semester each year. Cecil Wilcox Award The Cecil Willcox Award is a cash award that recognizes the Outstanding German Student of the year. This award is presented during the departmental graduation and award ceremony at the end of spring semester each year. Igor Levitsky Award The Levitzky Award recognizes academic achievement and the potential for future scholarly research or a professional career related to RUSSIA and/or EASTERN EUROPE. This award will provide funds to support intensive study of Russian or another Slavic language (either in the US or abroad), an independent research project, an internship or some other program for professional development. Ludwig Uhlig Award The Ludwig Uhlig Award recognizes outstanding research in the area of German literary or linguistic studies at the graduate or undergraduate level. This award supports the presentation or further development of a project by providing funds for research materials and/or travel to a professional conference or research archives. Martha Aubra Lay Stooksbury Scholarship The Martha Aubra Lay Stooksbury Endowed Scholarship in German supports undergraduate students double majoring in German and one of the following: Astrophysics, Atmospheric Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, or College of Engineering. Scholarship preference will be given to students with financial need. Erika C. and Ward B. Lewis Award The Erika C. and Ward B. Lewis Award will be given to one or two German students each academic year for study at the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in Munich, Germany.
