From UGA Student to Filmmaker Ashley Veazey graduated from the University of Georgia in the spring of 2024 with a double major in German and Entertainment & Media Studies and a minor in Film Studies. “During my time at UGA, I was deeply involved with both the German and Film Studies departments… We brought our communities together to screen German films like M, Wings of Desire, and Ali: Fear Eats the Soul.” Veazey served as president of the UGA Film Club and an officer in the German Club, connecting students through art, language, and culture. She regularly attended German Student Society events, conversation hours, and seminars. Joe Brown Hall A Capstone Experience Abroad Her final semester included the 2024 GSS Summer Study Abroad Program in Berlin, co-led by Dr. Berna Gueneli and Dr. Jan Uelzmann. From the Berlin Wall and Reichstag to the Film Museum Potsdam and Neue Nationalgalerie, Veazey explored how art and history intertwine. “This immersive experience was the perfect capstone to my undergraduate education… It deepened my love for both film and German language and culture.” The 2024 Study Abroad in Berlin Program cohort Graduate School in Germany After a gap year, Veazey will begin her M.A. in Producing for Film and Television at Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, supported by a DAAD Study Scholarship for Fine Arts/Film. “I’m especially grateful to Dr. Gueneli, who first introduced me to this scholarship opportunity… The Franklin faculty’s support played a crucial role in helping me find my creative voice.” Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf Ashley Veazey located second from the left Words of Advice Looking back on her journey, Ashley says she owes much of her success to the support and opportunities she found at UGA.
