Image: The Foreign Language Translation Exam in German or Russian offers graduate students a way to fulfill one of the foreign language requirements of some grad programs. The Department of Germanic & Slavic Studies’ translation exam will be Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 11-1 in 217 Joe Brown Hall. Students can register by emailing german@uga.edu by Wednesday, February 9th. Please bring cash, check, or money order for $25 to the exam, as well as paper and a pen/pencil. One printed dictionary is allowed; we have a few copies available to borrow. No electronic devices. Students can choose to translate into English one text chosen from three passages of 500-600 words. Choices include one text each from the humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences. Exams are graded pass/fail based on demonstrated ability that is equal to or better than language proficiency achieved by a student earning a B or better in a 2002 fourth semester language course, or 2500-level graduate reading knowledge course. Students will be informed by email of their grades approximately two weeks after the examination. A copy will be sent to their department's Graduate Coordinator Administrator.
