Image: The Department of Germanic & Slavic Studies is honored to announce Natalie Navarrete as a 2023 Rhodes Scholar. In addition to majoring in Russian, Navarrete also majors in International Affairs and Spanish with a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She is part of the Russian Flagship Program and is currently completing her capstone year in Kazakhstan. The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the world’s oldest fellowships and holds high prestige. Navarrete will begin her graduate program at Oxford University in October, pursuing a master’s degree in Russian and East European studies. She also plans to continue her research exploring how Central Asian crime organizations used the COVID-19 pandemic to evolve drug smuggling strategies.
