Halle Foundation Berlin Scholarship

Through the generous support of the Halle Foundation, who has been a beneficiary and partner of the UGA Germanic & Slavic Studies Department, we are able to offer $2,500 each to 20 students accepted to our Summer Berlin study abroad program.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You have to have committed and paid the program deposit of $300. 
  • You must submit a one-page essay about why you would like to participate in the Berlin program and what insights you hope to gain while you are in Berlin. The essay will be submitted to Dr. Gueneli and Dr. Uelzmann in an email (Berna.Gueneli@uga.edu and Jan.Uelzmann@uga.edu). 
  • In the same email, you have to indicate your willingness to participate in a Berlin Program-related event at the Halle Foundation Estate in Atlanta in the Fall, following the completion of the program. 
  • The final deadline to commit and pay the deposit for the program will be (TBD for Summer 2027). Accepted students who have not committed by then will be waitlisted.

About The Halle Foundation

The Halle Foundation Logo

The Halle Foundation is an independent, public grant making charity established in 1986 by Claus M. Halle, a German native who lived in the U.S. for about one-half of his adult life. He came to know, understand and love the two countries that had been home to him for so long, and had “witnessed and concluded that there exists a lack of knowledge and understanding in the United States and in Germany of the respective other country’s people, society, geography, culture, sports, political and legal systems, as well as habits and customs.” Claus Halle “observed and concluded that greater knowledge and better understanding in the aforementioned fields will lead to increased friendship between the two peoples and improved relations between the two nations, thereby helping the cause of world peace.” Determined to work at increasing such knowledge and understanding, Claus Halle established The Halle Foundation.
